Mechanical Design Engineer Sr. / Staff

This position is responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise with a strong focus on static pressure equipment (pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, etc) and rotating equipment. This position will be required to provide technical assistance and leadership to support capital projects and internal customers in maintenance and production.
Provide mechanical design, specification, and technical leadership during all phases of capital projects (conceptual scope development, front end loading, detailed design, construction, and commissioning).
Prepare front end loading documentation, discipline cost estimates, and IFC design packages
Develop technical specifications, solicit vendor inquiries, prepare bid tabulations, manage procurement, and expedite mechanical equipment for capital projects.
Review vendor submittals for accuracy including ASME code calculations for fabricated pressure equipment
Provide technical support to piping designers and perform piping stress/flexibility analysis
Define inspection requirements for fabricated equipment and issue inspection and testing plans
Perform inspections and conduct kick-off meetings at offsite fabrication shops
Provide expertise, knowledge, and interpretations in pressure vessel and piping codes
Provide engineering support to rerate or repair pressure equipment, calculate minimum wall thicknesses, evaluate remaining life, and fitness-for-service
Responsible for the interpretation and adherence to Company Technical Standards, industry design codes, and applicable regulatory standards for mechanical equipment
Serve as the Company Representative for monitoring and oversight of projects performed by external engineering firms to ensure quality, cost, and schedule compliance
Monitor and review industry codes and standards for impact to BASF Technical Standards/Procedures
Occasional overnight travel required for meetings, shop inspections, etc.

Required:

BS in Mechanical Engineering with 8
years of experience related to the design, procurement, operation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of ASME and API codes for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and piping systems is required.
At least 5 years of experience implementing industrial capital projects as a discipline lead or project manager is required. Managing numerous small projects simultaneously will be required in this position.
Available for 50% travel to support Regional Service Center projects

Desired:
Working knowledge of the following software: Compress, Ceasar II, and NozzlePro
Previous experience as a maintenance, reliability, or plant engineer at a petrochemical facilityEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
